About Aromatherapy

Natural plant extracts are used in Aromatherapy, a holistic healing treatment that promotes health and well-being. It is also known as essential oil therapy or oil therapy. Aromatherapy is a method of improving the health of the body, mind, and spirit by using aromatic essential oils. It is beneficial for both physical and emotional well-being. In fact, aromatherapy can be helpful for a variety of minor conditions, from mild insomnia to mood management.

Aromatherapy is considered both an art and a science. In recent years, Aromatherapy has gained more recognition in science and medicine.

In Aromatherapy, an individual inhales essential oil vapors or scents in order to experience positive health effects. Researchers have found that using certain essential oils at bedtime may help individuals sleep better as smell affects sleep.

About My Practice

I have been a qualified therapeutic Massage Therapist since 2015. I used different mandalas to help my clients treat their bodies in a natural and holistic way. The main reason why I got into this industry to help people. Even though I cannot cure someone with the use of Aromatherapy, I can help them manage their symptoms so that they can live a fulfilled life without their symptoms limiting them.

I own my practice which I started while I was still studying. We pride ourselves on providing affordable, professional treatment to help as many people as possible who live in discomfort and need help.

How I Found My Client

The lady I have chosen to use for this Case study came to me because I was treating her boyfriend at the time. I used reflexology to help him deal with his digestive problems, and he spoke to me about his girlfriend.

Not long after conversing with her boyfriend I started to see this new client for massage therapy. I knew I needed to incorporate Aromatherapy into my treatment plan once she opened up to me about her Insomnia.

How I Helped Her Insomnia Symptoms

My client has been suffering from insomnia for a few months before her first treatment. I started off her session with a detailed client form to try and understand where her insomnia might stem from. After talking to my client, I realized that her insomnia is caused by her stress and anxiety from not having a job, not providing for her family, and worrying about her mother. The latter was currently ill at the time.

My treatment plan was to incorporate Aromatherapy with massage therapy. The goal was to help relax her body physically with the massage and allow the oils to penetrate through her skin and olfactory system to help calm her brain and relax her nerves.

I mixed:

  1. 10ml carrier oil (grapeseed oil)
  2. Two drops of lavender oil
  3. Two drops of valor oil
  4. One drop of lemongrass. This essential oil was to enable my client to drive home without feeling groggy.

The treatment consisted of a 90-minute Aromatherapy Massage. I used the oil mixture that I made for the client during her treatment. Once the session was over, I gave the client some water to drink and let her rest for a few minutes before she got in the car to go home.

As her homecare treatment, I gave my client a mixture of Lavender and Chamomile oil to place on her temples, pillow, and/or feet before she goes to bed at night. The smells are relaxing and can help you sleep better.

I also gave her a lavender and sandalwood mixture that she could place in her oil burner for those moments when she was feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety.

Results

My client fell asleep during her massage, and she woke up feeling rejuvenated and less stressed. Once she got home and started to use the oils for her homecare every night, she slowly began to sleep longer and have a deeper sleep after four nights of use.

She has now been using the oils for four months and can sleep through the night without waking up feeling anxious and stressed.

Aromatherapy definitely helped break the vicious cycle with insomnia. Treatment started with a once-a-week massage and oils to use before she went to sleep. Now, I see this client once a month as a maintenance to ensure she stays on this positive change and journey.
