Reflexology For Pent Up Emotions

March 10, 2022

Having pent-up emotions can take a toll on our bodies. The more complicated aspect of emotions is that sometimes we may feel fine, but our body is giving signs that it is not. For example, we may be exhausted, sore, or experiencing unexplained pain or muscle spasms without medical reasoning. When some people get overwhelmed with certain aspects of life, they can often shut their emotions out. This is why some people may feel as if they are fine internally, but they are not. On the other hand, some people may be experiencing very loud emotions and not sure how to handle the complexity of them. When you feel that pent up emotions are taking over, reflexology can help.

Reflexology is an alternative therapy that focuses on pressure points on the feet, ears, and hands. It can help reduce stress, tension, and promote healing and relaxation. The technique uses small muscle movements with the fingers and thumbs. The purpose of reflexology is to improve glands, organs, and systems functions, stimulating the nervous system and the meridians to promote the body’s healing.

Emotions can be stored in the feet. Yes, that’s right. The feet. These feelings are nervousness, fear, anxiety, stress, boredom, happiness, awkwardness, depression, and so much more. We hold a lot of differentiating feelings in our feet, so it’s no wonder that some people experience a huge emotional relief during a reflexology session.

Reflexology helps release pent-up emotions.

How does it Work?

Foot reflexology can help manage symptoms of depression and anxiety by working on specific meridian points in your foot. Some patients can literally feel the heavy emotions melting away the moment the practitioner works on a particular area.

There are a multitude of reflex points in the feet that are associated with emotions, especially sadness, anger, and depression. When these meridian points receive pressure, the relief follows, and emotions start to release.

When the pressure points are finally released, it communicates to the nervous system and stimulate it to begin healing while releasing those feel-good hormones. This can cause a big emotional release for a lot of people.

Sometimes, patients don’t realize they could release emotions this way. And even more often, they don’t even realizing the amount of stress they have been in until certain points in their feet have pressure applied to them.

Advantages to Reflexology

There are many benefits to reflexology, and one of them is releasing pent-up emotions. Other advantages are that it encourages healing by relieving tension and stress that stimulates the nervous system. This can immensely reduce depression and help with managing it.

It also provides relief for those suffering from chronic pain and can even reduce the chances of chronic diseases. In addition, reflexology helps increase blood flow and improve circulation, which can, in turn, enhance overall wellbeing.

Reflexology helps with the relief of complex emotions by targeting certain points in the hands, feet, or ears.

Disadvantages to Reflexology

If you suffer from chronic pain or disease, always consult your doctor before seeking out therapy. Reflexology can be uncomfortable and cause pain due to congested and tight areas. This can aggravate certain conditions and cause circulatory problems in those that suffer from them.

Do not seek out reflexology if you have wounds on your feet, broken bones, or fractures.

Reflexology and Emotions

Reflexology can benefit anyone and everyone. Especially those who have endured trauma and are still holding onto emotions, aware of these complex emotions or not. Sometimes we become so conditioned in our early years that we adapt and cope with our trauma as the years go on without realizing that hanging onto these emotions can wreak havoc on our nervous system and come out in negative ways. They can surface through physical symptoms or emotional.

People who suffer from depression and anxiety would benefit immensely as well as those who struggle with tension and stress. The release of any of those emotions will release feel-good hormones and help their overall wellbeing and promote much-needed healing.

Someone that may be suffering from on-going headaches, or muscle pain should inquire about reflexology as well. Reflexology can help people with circulation problems, diabetes, and migraine.

Types of Reflexology

There isn’t a specific reflexology method to help with emotional release, as they can all help. However, there are four major different kinds.

These are:

  • Two Shur Method
  • The Ingham Method
  • Hot Stones
  • Zone Reflexology

Two Shur Method

This method uses knuckles or smaller sticks and is a firmer and more particular approach developed in Tawaiin. It promotes stimulation rather than relaxation, and the practitioner will often use a specific cream to help with the flow.

Ingham Method

The most popular method of reflexology and used around the world. This method is commonly used for tension and emotional release and to help manage depression and anxiety. The Ingham method focuses on particular points in the foot that stimulate the nervous system to promote whole-body healing.

Hot Stones

This is an excellent method to use to promote blood flow and activate circulation through temperature. Similar to zone and Ingham, although this method uses temperature and stones.

Zone Reflexology

This method focuses on the lined zones of the feet and hands that divide the body. Applying pressure to particular points can help alleviate stress and tension and release emotions.

Bottom Line

Reflexology helps patients navigate the complexity of their emotions by triggering specific meridian and reflex points that can lead to a massive emotional release. This then allows the body to heal and release feel-good hormones that can benefit the overall well-being.
