Healing My Migraine Through The Use Of Chiropractic

About Me

I’m an active 37-year-old woman, scuba instructor, and world traveler. I’ve always been someone that’s jumped into life with both feet. My family laughs at my clumsy disaster-prone ways and sees me as someone that accidents ‘happen’ to. I’ve learned like a Roomba – that when you bump into things, you turn the other way and carry-on. I was a master at overcoming injuries in my youth, but in my 30s, my quality of life dramatically changed. I started experiencing chronic migraine, back and neck pain, and episodes of vertigo, which I healed through the use of chiropractic.

For me, there was a real ah-ha moment when I discovered Network Chiropractic or Network Spinal Analysis. Unlike the crack-and-pop kind of chiropractic. This gentle form of treatment encourages you to become an active participant in your own healing. It concentrates on the physical tension caused by a hyperactive nervous system through focused attention, breath work, range of motion, and learning natural rhythms. You develop a greater awareness of your own mind-spine-body connection. It was my miracle cure, let me tell you why.

Building Pressure

As a youth, I experienced many concussions and a handful of other unlucky bone breaks. Then as an adult, I endured a serious motor vehicle accident on an ATV. I fractured my thoracic and lumbar spine and suffered brain trauma and memory loss. This accident’s effects were lasting, sparking a series of agonizing episodes from headaches, blurred vision, back and neck aches. The tipping point came when I was trekking in the mountains of Nepal. Overcome with altitude sickness triggered by these symptoms, I had to be emergency evacuated and sent home to Canada. These symptoms manifested into a life-threatening experience.

Seeking Alternative Treatment

Western medicine doctors had put medication band-aids on my complaints of ‘just not feeling right,’ being dizzy, and feeling constant back pain. Yet, like a volcano, the symptoms kept building pressure. Ready to erupt at a moment’s notice and always bubbling below the surface. Consequently, I was always on edge, fatigued, and visiting the emergency room due to crushing migraines. The world became a joy-less place.

Pain medications, special pillows, an alcohol-ban, you name it, I tried it. I pursued many treatment options before I was referred to Network Chiropractic. And, until this wellness method, I didn’t know it was possible to heal yourself through your own mind-body connection. Sure, I tried yoga and dabbled in meditation, but that was my limit on understanding alternative medicines.

Healing My Brain and Pain

In my first sessions with my Network Chiropractor, I was skeptical. I didn’t know what to expect. I had tried so many methods. How could chiropractic, this gentle technique, actually help with my migraine pain?

The chiropractor started by introducing a series of light touches on parts of my body and asking me to breathe into that spot. This is designed to help you be present. In other words, it creates a soothing feeling that allows your brain to make a positive connection with your body. Through these touches, deep breaths, and minor spinal adjustments, you learn how to change the pain pathways in your nervous system. But like any lesson, it takes a bit of practice. Eventually, your brain begins to automatically connect with those new relaxed pathways first. You overcome the tension pressure and relearn how to manage stress. The ultimate pain culprit.

In a few short months of regular treatment, stress was no longer a trigger. As a result, my migraines and pain symptoms became minimal. I also learned exactly how my mental and physical stress causes my nervous system to misalign my spine by provoking neck tightness. Which turned out to be the origin of all my migraines.

For me, the treatment was shockingly successful. Between the chiropractic appointments and at-home practice, I’ve massively improved my quality of life and got rid of my migraine. These days, when I start to become anxious or stressed, I use some Network Chiropractic techniques. And more, I’ve learned how to navigate injuries on my own terms. Through mind-body connection.

Closing Thoughts

If my accident-prone life has taught me anything, is that you are in control of your own healing. Whether it’s a migraine or back pain, it’s important to be an advocate for your own health. If traditional treatment isn’t working for you, it’s ok to move onto something that does. Consider starting with alternative medicine like Network Chiropractic that teaches you about the mind-spine-body connection. Your pain isn’t permeant if you learn to be in the driver’s seat.
