Alternative Medicine To Treat Headaches

Headaches are a common problem for many people in the U.S today. In 2008 alone, there were over 3 million visits to the emergency room where headache was the primary complaint, in the US only. This astonishing number is just a fraction of those that may actually suffer from migraines or chronic headaches. Those who have been prescribed medication don’t always experience calmness, which leads them to explore different treatment options. One of these treatment options includes Alternative Medicine for Migraine Relief. There are many different holistic medicines for headaches, whether it be meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, or natural supplements. At Koshas, we can help you find the right Alternative Medicine treatment and practitioner to tackle your symptoms and help you find relief.

Finding Alternative Treatment For Migraines

At Koshas, we have helped users find relief from their chronic migraines by utilizing a personalized treatment plan and finding the right Alternative Medicine Practitioner that is best for you. For example, take the case of a client of ours who was suffering from intense tension headaches. She had been coping with them by taking regular painkillers, such as Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen, which partly helped, but was also causing adverse side effects in her stomach. Her headaches had become stronger and more frequent in the last few months, so she decided to take a more natural approach. We recommended biofeedback as a treatment option to address her migraines and provide natural relief.

Biofeedback Treatment

Biofeedback combats stress by teaching relaxation techniques. It is possible to consciously manipulate breathing, heart rate and other usually involuntary functions to override your body’s response to stressful situations. At first, our client was skeptical, especially after many failed attempts through more conventional methods. She really wondered how this could finally put an end to her suffering.

During the session, our client had an intake consultation with the practitioner, followed by having a number of sensors attached to her body. These are necessary in order to measure real-time key bodily functions including breathing, muscle tension, heart rate, blood pressure, peripheral skin temperature and EEG brain waves. Our client found out that the muscles in her head area were contracting significantly during tense situations. This is why communication between your practitioner and you is important. These symptoms would have gone unmentioned if they weren’t elicited through conversations with the practitioner. More sensors were attached to her forehead, so that tension in the muscles of her head, jaw and neck could be recorded through the electrodes.

Treatment Progress

The muscular tension was converted into a tone and any increase in tension resulted in a corresponding increase in the tone (or vice-versa). The practitioner encouraged our client to try to reduce the tone in any way possible, which seemed like an impossible feat at first. However, through trial and error, she learned to relax the jaw, forehead and neck, which drastically reduce her tension headaches. She went to the practitioner about a dozen times and she became aware of facial tension in her every day life which allowed her to relax in previously tension-producing situations. And while she is not 100% free of tension headaches they have been greatly reduced in frequency and pain. She also learned the early symptoms learned to apply relaxation techniques beforehand to help prevent further pain and reduce chances for a full blown migraine. In short, she established a much stronger connection between the mind and body and became more conscious of her emotions and corresponding physical reactions.

Let Us Help You Find The Best Options

There seems to be many layers to each of us, with complex connections among them. Traditional medicine is usually focused on the physical layer, while alternative medicine believes there is a more complex puzzle in each of us. Our goal is to help you explore more options for you, both in terms of treatments and practitioners so that you can feel at your best.
