Mindfulness and productivity have a lot in common. One who is proficient in either, knows how to organize, stay focused, and see an objective to the end. Now, wouldn’t it make sense if mastering BOTH was the ultimate key to success?
Begin checking off your To-Dos and developing habits with mindfulness techniques built to improve your overall mental well-being.
As with any practice, it’s important to know why. In this article you will find a brief explanation for the science of mindfulness, changes in your behaviour that you can expect, and of course, we share a few methods for getting started.
Mindfulness honestly changes your brain.
Through research and tests, such as using an MRI scan, scientists have been able to conclude what happens to a brain trained in mindfulness. With results showing in multiple areas.
They have seen an increase in emotion regulation and rationality, increased pain tolerance, and introspective thinking. Overall, implying that the subject becomes much more self aware.
Our productivity level is usually affected by one thing: a busy mind.
Sometimes we have so many tasks to do, and if we don’t have the proper tools and skills to complete them, they continue to pile up. For many, we frantically try our best to juggle each task a little bit. However, this spreads our attention thin and we usually don’t complete as much as we hoped. Some even feel so overwhelmed by the tasks that they can’t even choose where to start.
With mindfulness, we can better bring our attention to the tasks at hand, prioritize, organize, and complete these continuously growing lists of To-Dos. Here’s a glimpse at what that can look like.
Emotions are how we experience our day. If we’re having a bad day, that changes our response to each event. When we are mindful, we can recognize where our emotions are coming from. Then with a little bit of personal insight to our emotions we can address the issue and why it is affecting our productivity. Does it have to do with the task in the current moment? Can you process it right now or is it better addressed later?
Being mindful teaches you to be in the moment. This means you aren’t thinking about how last week’s meeting went. Equally, you don’t worry how next week’s meeting has an important person attending. What matters is the effort you put in during the moment. You won’t over look anything because you are present for each part of your presentation. This applies for many things in your daily life as well. Perhaps something you tried once that didn’t go well but you would like to try again.
When we have so many tasks on our minds it is hard to see one through to the end without dabbling with others along the way. Wouldn’t it be more efficient if we could just stick to one and get it done? Of course! When you practice mindfulness, you learn to stay focused on the moment – or in this case, the current task.
Most mindfulness techniques are going to be beneficial in improving productivity. It’s the importance of doing it, and that it feels right to you. What might work for one person might not for their peer or coworker.
However, we can point you in the right direction. Try one (or a few!) of these throughout your day.
Once you find your groove with mindfulness there is no doubt you will find a positive shift in your day. The extra layer of attention also adds a deeper understanding that equips you to be able to face whatever comes up in the moment, without the stress.
